Do not use escape and unescape. Use encodeURI, decodeURI, encodeURIComponent and decodeURIComponent becuase the latter works with unicode and works cross browser. There are differences in escape between script implementations and it cannot handle UTF-16 (I think).

When you get the string to the server most frameworks translates the encoded string to Unicode (UTF-16) and then that can be saved to your DB or text file. If it turns up as %u0644 at your server just decode it before saving it. See you framework documentation to figure out how to do this.
