Is it really a viable option to download the entire dictionary? This must be several megs of info.

Might be an option, the orginal goal was to use only client side javascript so no server code allowed.
It works by loading the dictionay in chunks so when it gets to a word starting with 'a' it loads the a chunk. This though is causing a delay which is noticable :( .
I've got a few ideas to fix this up yet though

Pretty neat but like you said it got problems. It seems like you do one word at a time. It would be better to send all the text once and then get misspelled words from that.
