 Using windows.opener to persist state between pages, Jonas, January 11, 2005

Subject: Using windows.opener to persist state between pages From: Jonas Date: January 11, 2005

Hi,

IE specific

I just tried setting the windows.opener property on one page using javascript: opener = new Object(); opener.someProperty = "someValue";

This value is persisted "in the browser" between page transitions.... I can navigate to any page/site and whenever I try javascript: alert(opener.someProperty); I get the value.   I don't know if this property will be garbage collected at some point but then I guess I can create a circular reference to keep it alive.

Is this a known feature? I could use this as a client side cache.

Thanks!

/Jonas
