Thanks Adam,

This actually looks like it'll do exactly what I'm after.  Only issue I've had so far in playing around with xLoadTree is that any whitespace at the beginning of the XML documents loaded when opening a node cause the tree to crap out.  I'm using ColdFusion to dynamically generate the XML file, and it inserts some arbitrary white space in at the top of the XML document that you can only see when looking at the source. 

Trying to figure out a way to trim the whitespace in either CF or xLoadTree now....
